Top 2 Anti-Aging Foods to Eat Every Day

top 2 anti aging foods to eat every day

What diet tips has dermatologist and anti-aging skin expert Dr. Bailey adopted to keep herself looking and feeling young at 60?

I’m often told I look younger than I am. While some of that may be flattery, in general, I think I’m holding up pretty well for 60. Yes, I’ve been good to my skin, but I’ve also been careful to eat a holistically healthy diet too, meaning the sum total of my daily diet is healthy overall. That said, my daily diet can still vary. But, there are two things that I make a special effort to eat every day because I know that they are health superfoods. I was asked about them recently and I thought it would be nice to share them with you.

For over 30 years I make sure to eat these two foods every day:

Freshly ground flax seeds are an anti-aging superfood

I top my breakfast fruit and yogurt with ¼ of flax that I grind fresh daily. Flax seeds are one of the richest plant sources of omega-3 fatty acid which fights heart disease, inflammation and cancer. They are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, fiber and plant lignans needed for your healthy gut bacteria (microbiome).

I grind my flax seeds in a coffee grinder that I dedicate to just flax (no coffee beans in this gizmo!) You have to grind them to get the goodness because the seed is hard and your teeth are not good at breaking it open when you chew. Your stomach acid does not break open the seeds either.

I like the golden flax seeds best though all the varieties I have tried taste great. They can also top salads or go in smoothies. I make them fresh as I need them because the nutrients are fragile and break down quickly.

At least one serving of beta carotene rich winter squash, kale or carrots.

Beta carotene is a precursor to Vitamin A, a critical nutrient for skin health that also slows skin aging. As an antioxidant it helps fend off aging for your entire body too. You get an added bonus because beta carotene warms your complexion, and a beta-carotene rich glow has been scientifically proven to be more attractive than a sun tan. Beta-carotene rich greens have also been shown to slow brain aging.

Did you know that 1 cup of winter squash has 450% of your daily recommended dose of vitamin A?!

When it comes to nutrition that fights aging, there’s no dietary bypass that comes from a vitamin supplement. Nope, you just have to put healthy food in your mouth and chew then swallow. It’s actually easy, affordable and doable. These are my two top foods that I’m certain to get into my mouth every day. What are yours?
