It’s true! Over 1000 yoga studios across the country are offering a week of free classes to new students during the month of September in celebration of National Yoga Month. It’s a deal that’s too good to pass up.
If you’ve been thinking about trying yoga, now’s the time to start.
I’m a big yoga fan. I think just about everybody benefits from yoga. My vitality and the quality of my life increased when I started taking yoga classes 3 years ago even though I’ve stayed physically active my entire life.
Some of the scientifically proven medical benefits of yoga include:
- Decreased lower back pain
- Decreased menopausal symptoms
- Increased flexibility and improved balance
- Reversal of age associated muscle loss
- Help in straightening the spine
- Decreased rheumatoid arthritis symptoms
- Decreased symptoms of depression
- Improvement in type 2 diabetes
Earlier in the year I wrote a post titled The Health And Anti Aging Benefits Of Yoga, where I summarized the known medical benefits of yoga. I also shared some of the personal experiences I’ve had while studying yoga. I’m continually amazed at how energizing it is to do something in yoga class like a back bend, which I haven’t done since childhood. I just can’t explain it but somehow flexing that muscle memory is bizarrely rejuvenating; it’s a healthy and safe way to shake up our physical experience of aging.
To take advantage of the free week of yoga classes, click here to go to the National Yoga Month website. Enter your zip code to find a participating studio near you, follow the prompts and get your free class pass.
This program is so great that I just had to get the word out-you can’t beat it! Now is a great time to try yoga for the first time, or to try a new participating studio. Here in Sonoma County, I study at The Devi Yoga Center in Sebastopol, and I know they’re participating in the program-maybe I’ll see you in class!
