I just received a great ‘thank you’ email from one of my wonderful customers and it rocks!
I would just like to say that I have struggled with terrible skin conditions for the past few years and they were getting progressively worse. Upon finding Dr. Bailey’s website and reading her many blog posts, I realized that what I had was a combination of rosacea and seborrheic dermatitis (facial dandruff), which were causing the redness, facial flushing, and clogged pores. I immediately ordered the Redness Relief Kit and my skin just continues to get better! I have since ordered many of her other products including her new mineral makeup which I can’t wait to receive! Thank you Dr. Bailey! Angie C
This is why I keep writing about skin care. For me, teaching you about skin problems and how to pick the right products for your skin type is so satisfying. I’ve got years of tricks up my sleeve for the most common skin problems and I’m chomping at the bit to share them.
Angie’s ‘thank you’ popped up in my email as I was working at my computer on some new skin care kits for the web site. These new kits have more of my favorite product combos to fix the sorts of common skin problems that I see in my dermatology practice. I’m eager to get them out to you all and I love when they help you…….and thanks Angie for sending me your story, it rocks to know that your skin is better!

Hey Cynthia ,I am 23 years old male , 3 months back I was trying just to get rid of a pimple on my cheeks , so I applied a little dettol over it , I don’t know what went wrong ,Whether the dettol was contaminated or may be just cause I used it in undiluted form , It burned my skin , its been 3 months now , the marks are just not going away, its really embarrassing when people ask me about it again and again , I visited the doctor , a skin speciallist , he said I am suffering from “post inflamatory hyperpigmentation” and he has given me this cream called “CLARIDERM DS” its a hydroquinone (4%) based cream , he has told me to apply it every night before going to sleep , I have been using it for a week ,but not very convinced with the results because the burned layer of my skin is still there are looks really awkward , I have been using Sun screen SPF 50 ,now I want your opinion to further boost the healing process or what ever you suggest me to do , my doctor has given me a 1 month period of observation ,
Please help me out here , I am losing confiedence and faith that I will ever get rid of these marks , its very disturbing. reply asap

Hello Ali,
I’m sorry to hear about your skin troubles. I must tell you that I can not give medical advice for anyone’s specific problem over the web (as the many disclaimers on my site reiterate). I can tell you in general that post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) is like a little stain deeper in the skin and it takes time to lighten up. Important steps involve absolute sun protection, both uva and uvb and as so many of my pages on my web site will attest, I believe that the best protection comes from the mineral sunscreen products with zinc oxide. Hydroquinone lightens melanin pigment, which is part of what is present in PIH. All I can say is it takes time and personal care by a treating physician to be sure the treatment fits a person’s skin and the problem.
Warm Regards,
Cynthia Bailey MD
Well thnx for the reply Dr. Bailey, ya i know about the disclaimer , but do you think this mark will ever completely go away ? I use SPF 50 sun screen every day , but do you think tretinoin cream can help get rid of this mark more easily ?
Medicines like Tretinoin are helpful and I use them for my patients with PIH. PIH typically continues to fade over time with treatment and sun protection. Only your treating physician can make more specific comments about your unique skin condition.
alright doc, thnx 4 da support ,i totally appreciate it,hopefully these marks will fade away nd if they will, i will definately inform u .thnx alot i feel better nw,these marks were dragging me into trauma
Hi Dr. Bailey,
In your anti-aging kit without glycolic acid, you have included Citrix CRS 15% serum.
My skin is on the sensitive side. In the past, I noticed that my skin cannot tolerate “daily” Vitamin C applicaton in the morning while on the nightly Retin-A regimen. For instance, if I applied Vitamin C daily, my daytime skin usually turned sensitive and had a couple tiny pimples in possible reaction to the silicones in Vitamin C products.
However, I am interested in adding Vitamin C product in my morning routine. I am just wondering if I only apply Citrix CRS every other morning, or rather, twice a week, will my skin still benefit from the antioxidant benefit from Citrix CRS?
Thank you.
Ann
Hello Ann, The half life of vitamin C topically applied to the skin is about 4 days so you can even go longer than every other day between application. Also, I tell my patients to be certain that their facial cleanser is entirely non-irritating, such as Toleriane Cleanser. Usually we start w/ the CRS about twice a week and work up as tolerated by the skin. Sometimes there are also regional variations on the face for tolerance. For example, the area around the nose may be more sensitive and the Vita C is applies less frequently there than on the sides of the cheeks, which may be more tolerant.
Good question!

Dr. Bailey,
For a couple of weeks now, my regimen that I am using is the zinc bar, power of 3, & fortified moisturizer at night. Then in the morning, the toleriane cleanser, power of 3 & fortified moisturizer. I am starting to have some real dryness & irritation. Is there one of these products I need to eliminate or possibly cut back on?
Hello Angie,
There is an occasional person allergic to pyrithione zinc. The bar also has calendula in it which also has a very small potential to cause allergy. The zinc bar is the one of these 4 products that’s the most likely, and darn, it’s super therapeutic. That’s the one to try stopping and then wait for 2 weeks to see. If all goes well then I add it back a few days a week as a test. Keep me posted.

Hi Dr. Bailey, Thanks to you and your wonderful website I have a skincare regimen that finally works for me. I noticed that you do not have any face masks or toners included among your products. What are your thoughts on including these items as part on a skincare routine, and which brands, products would you recommend? I have normal skin type (oily T-zone, a bit dehydrated in the cheek area) and am currently using the Antioxidant Kit with Glycolic Acid, plus tretinoin 1%. Thanks for your help.
Best,
Stefanie
Hi Stefanie,
I like them! I actually just added the Obagi Toner to the site http://www.drbaileyskincare.com/obagi-nu-derm-toner.shtml People love it for a cleaner than just clean feel. It’s soothing, nondrying yet gives an extra layer of clean to your skin.
I love masks too but haven’t found the right ones for retail sale. We have some great masks in my aesthetician practice that we use for facials, but they don’t come in retail sizes, darn it
Clay masks are particularly wonderful for deep pore cleansing because clay pulls oil and ‘stuff’ out of your pores to give your skin a wonderful, tight pore look. Sulfur masks are great for the inflammation of acne. Hydrating masks are great for dry or sensitive skin. I am actively looking for masks right now and when I find ones that have all the things I want in a mask product, have a good chance to test them out, then you’ll see it on the site. Thanks for asking, your psychic!
Warm Regards,

I like this product a lot. It is one of my best buys online. It firmed up my skin really well. Plus, it is not oily nor heavy. So it is perfect to use both in the winter or even in the middle of really humid summer days. Works really well for me!
I have people use it year round and in every type of climate. Glad you like it, it’s one of my ultimate favorites too! Cynthia Bailey MD
