One of the fastest ways to brighten your complexion is with Obagi Nu Derm skin care products.
In my Sonoma County Dermatology office I’ve created a unique treatment program to help you get the best Obagi Nu Derm results with very little if any of the peeling and skin sensitivity that often scares people away from this powerful, yet highly effective skin care treatment.
People from Santa Rosa, Sebastopol, Marin, Mendocino and Lake Counties all turn-to my aestheticians for consultation and skin care services to help them achieve the great results that are possible with Obagi Nu Derm.
Our unique home treatment regimen and supportive facials keep your skin happy while your age spots fade and your wrinkles soften; your skin texture becomes dewy and luminous and the glow is striking!
Obagi Nu Derm is the perfect after summer skin tune up. I have a ritual of using my Obagi Nu Derm products for 2 to 3 months every fall. I love just waiting for my husband to say ‘wow, your skin looks radiant’ over dinner some evening, usually at about treatment week 4. God bless him for noticing!
If you’ve struggled with Obagi Nu Derm before, or if you’ve been curious whether you’re a good candidate, come in for a consultation with one of my aestheticians. My aestheticians and I work as a team to bring Sonoma County the finest professional skin care anywhere, including our finely tuned process for using the Obagi Nu Derm treatment products. MaLinda and Sarah are highly expert aesthetician and caring lovely women. They’ll explain the treatment program and help you decide whether Obagi Nu Derm is right for you.
What you can expect from my Obagi Nu Derm Treatment Program in Sonoma County.
In my dermatology practice I typically recommend a 3 month treatment session for Obagi Nu Derm that includes the special supportive facials that we’ve created just for Obagi treated skin. After your Obagi Nu Derm Treatment Program is complete we’ll create a maintenance skin care routine to help you maintain your results so that you have healthy and attractive skin all year long; skin with a smooth dewy texture and without a lot of uneven pigmentation.
Yes you can buy your Obagi from many ‘med spa’ type businesses. You can also get products online (even though the Nu Derm system includes prescription products, which always amazes me!) and you can try to figure it all out on your own. But you deserve a Board Certified Dermatologist and her team of highly skilled skin care professionals for your skin – you and your skin will love the difference.
Fall is the perfect time to brighten your complexion. Have soft glowing skin now. I just got my products out and started my Fall Obagi Complexion Tune-up during this first week of October, join me!

No Fair! I use your other recommended products but thought I needed an extra kick, so I purchased Obagi NuDerm from my dermatologist. What a mess. Red, raw, blistery skin. My dr. doesn’t know your secret for using Obagi without the side effects. Please help those of us that faithfully read your blogs but live 3000 miles away. Tell us the way to get the benefits without having our face fall off. I love your blogs and have always had success using your recommendations. Thank you. Helen
Dr Baily,
I have tried Obagi & struggled with it. The dryness & redness make it hard for me to use. I live in North Carolina, so can’t make an appt at your facility. Do you have some advice to those of us who follow your blog, but can’t be your patient. I have learned a lot from reading your blog
Thanks
Ruth Ristaino
Hello Ruth,
My treatment instructions that I use here for my patients are outlined in this older post http://www.drbaileyskincare.com/blog/treat-age-spots-and-skin-hyperpigmentation-now-while-you%e2%80%99re-out-of-the-sun/ In my office we also do a calming facial as often as needed using absolutely the most calming and hydrating products and tons of hyaluronic acid to help the skin cope for 3 months with these transforming Obagi products.
Hope that helps,
Cheers,
Cynthia Bailey MD
Hello Helen,
Thanks for the lovely comments. I just posted a link in Ruth’s comment to my older post where I outline my use regimen. It’s http://www.drbaileyskincare.com/blog/treat-age-spots-and-skin-hyperpigmentation-now-while-you%e2%80%99re-out-of-the-sun/ Let me know if that doesn’t help.
Cheers,
Cynthia Bailey MD
I’m looking forward to reading the links for Helen and Ruth as I am starting my 3rd week of Obagi Nu Derm, minus the exfoliating cream. While I haven’t been peeling or blistering, my skin is slightly reddened and burning. Recently I began applying the Glycolix Fortified once a day, and I always lather on a good dose of Glycolix sunscreen.
I’ve been encouraged to do the Obagi peel at 6 weeks, but I have yet to decide if I will, and if it would be 15% or 20%. I’m wondering if you use the Obagi peel in your office, or if there is another peel you recommend.
Thanks for blogging!
Oh, I’m curious if you use Nectifirm in your practice?
Loving your website and tweets,
Valerie
Hello Valerie,
We typically do not do a peel while a person is on Obagi. The skin is too porous and the peel will go in really fast, causing irritation that will snowball. We do peels after the 3 month Nu Derm treatment to maintain results and we love the Obagi Blue Radiance peel. No I do not use Nectifirm in my practice. Are you using it? Do you think it’s working?
Thank you for the lovely comments,
Warm Regards,
Cynthia Bailey MD
Dr Bailey,
I’m so glad a friend recommended your website. I have started using the products from your Antioxidant Kit with Glycolic Acid in combination with tretinoin .05%. Although it has only been a few shorts weeks, I feel like my skin has reacted well to the products and appears clearer.
I read that you recommend incorporating the Obagi Nu-Derm system into one’s skincare routine for a 3-4 month period. I am seriously considering trying this to get rid of some stubborn hyper-pigmentation. My question is, if I have not experienced any redness, irritation or peeling from the tretinoin .05% is it likely I will not experience the major peeling, irritation etc. that is common during the first phase of the Obagi?
Thanks for your help!
Stefanie
Thanks for the quick and helpful response. I will wait and delay the peel untl 3 months. I’ve only been using the nectifirm for 3 weeks, and no results thus far, but I wasn’t expecting any so soon. I’ll keep you posted!
As an aside, I also started the elastiderm eye gel at the time I began the Nu Derm. Is that a product you incorporate into your Obagi skin care regimen?
Finally, I bought the glytone body wash several weeks ago and will finally get started with it tonight. I’m looking forward to seeing the results!
Many thanks,
Valerie Rhodes
Hello Stefanie,
The two irritants with Obagi Nu Derm are the Tretinoin and the Exfoderm, which is similar to glycolic acid. If you are tolerating the glycolic acid, vitamin C and tretinoin all together then you may well be able to use the Obagi Nu Derm’s Exfoderm with the same degree of tolerance. There is no telling however and I always recommend that my patients back-off of an irritating anti aging or acne product until the skin calms down, then resume use. This allow the skin to be patiently ‘coaxed’ into adjusting to a product.
I hope that helps. Best of luck,
Cynthia Bailey MD
Hello again Valerie,
I don’t use the Elastiderm eye gel because I really love the Replenix Eye Repair Cream http://www.drbaileyskincare.com/replenix-eye-repair-cream.shtml. Did you also get the entire Body Rejuvenation Kit? The Body Lotion gives the biggest ‘wow’ results! The Body Wash I like used with the Salux Cloth. It’s the synergy of the 3 products that’s so amazing and my use instructions help trouble shoot any questions people might have about how to maximize results.
I’d love to hear you final thoughts on the Nectifirm.
Cheers,
Cynthia Bailey MD
Hi Dr. Bailey,
Yes I purchased the kit, and for some reason I had in mind only to use it on my legs. After reviewing its uses, I’m going on the attack against those brown aging spots on my arms!
I’ll let you know about the Nectifirm which I intend to stick with for 8 weeks or so, and I’ll give the Replenix eye cream a try.
I appreciate your expertise and help.
Valerie
Hi Dr. Bailey,
Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly. I am excited to try the Obagi Nu Derm system. I’ve noticed in many reviews people incorporate the Obagi Viatmin C serum in their morning routine. Thoughts? When you use Nu Derm do you use additional products from your anti aging kit? I am currently using (and loving) the CRS rejuvenating cell serum 15%. If adding vitamin C serum to the Nu Derm system is safe and effective, can I continue to use the CRS?
Also, when I have completed the Obagi system and am using the Antioxidant kit with glycolic and the Tretinoin .05% (I alternate Tretinoin and the Glycolix Elite 15% every other night), can I use the Glytone mini peel gel and the Glytone clarifying conditioning cream? If so, how would I add these products safely?
Lastly, If I have not experienced any peeling or irritation with Tretinoin .05% is it safe to increase it to the .1% when I run out?
I wish I was close enough to make an appointment and see you in your office, but I am extremely thankful that you take the time to answer our questions.
Thank you!!
Stefanie
Hello Stefanie,
When I use the Obagi Nu Derm in my practice I have my patients stop all their normal skin care and just use the Obagi Nu Derm system for 3 to 4 months. I definitely do not add any products that might irritate the highly exfoliated skin and professional vitamin C products would count in that category. After the 3 to 4 month treatment course then I usually have them use the antioxidant kit with tretinoin. If they can handle glycolic acid too we either add that in the morning alternating with the CRS or at night alternating with the tretinoin. With the Nu Derm treatment we usually use 0,1% tretinoin because when it’s mixed w/ the blender then it’s strength is really 0.05%. After Nu Derm, I always try to get my patient’s skin to tolerate the highest strength tretinoin that it will let us use because’ more is better’ with tretinoin. Of course Nu Derm and tretinoin are prescription items and use must be supervised by a treating MD.
Warm Regards,
Cynthia Bailey MD
Dr. Bailey,
Thank you so much. This is exactly what I needed to know. I will be obtaining the Obagi from my Dr. (who also prescribed my Tretinoin), so I will be supervised as you recommend. Unfortunately, her practice does not utilize the skin care products that your practice carries and that I have come to really enjoy. Thankfully, for these items, I can rely on you!
Regards,
Stefanie

Bonjour Dr Bailey !
Claire
Hello Claire,
I have never had a comment in French and used the Google translate to try to understand your question. I really wish I spoke French since I have relatives in French Polynesia and all their friends speak French when I visit, but unfortunately I do not (maybe someday). Here is Google’s translation:
Hello Dr. Bailey!
Thank you for all the information you make available to users of Obagi Nu derm.
I started this treatment on prescription from my dermatologist a week ago. The advantage (or disadvantage) I have is not to have burns, little irritations. However, the skin peels off only around the mouth and neck, while the hyper pigmented areas (cheeks and forehead) do not react. I wonder if the results still occur.
Thank you for responding to my concern because I’m afraid of wasting my money for a treatment that will not work.
Claire, in my experience the peeling is not necessary, just patience. I have my patients use it for 3 to 4 months and in my patients most pigment lightens very significantly. It does not always all go away but the results are usually very pleasing. The Nu Derm Kit that we sell here usually lasts about the full 3 to 4 months. Sometimes the Clear #3 has to be purchased again to finish the treatment period. Of course you need to ask your treating doctor these questions for your specific skin.
Cheers,
Cynthia Bailey MD
Merci encore, Docteur.
Cordialement,
Claire
Hello Clarie,
No, I do not sell Obagi Nu Derm on the web or outside of my office. This means that I can not send them to France or anywhere else. They are prescription items so I will not be changing this decision.
Warm Regards,
Cynthia Bailey MD
Coucou Dr Bailey !
Hello Claire,
Your translation:
I return to you some tips about three weeks ago, the effects of Obagi Nu Derm I use.
You had in fact already reassured that for effective treatment, the peel is not always necessary. However, when I read the Obagi treatment system, it is based on skin renewal by peeling. I sought again because I have no peeling of the places that I treat very pigmented for nearly three weeks. Is there an action that comes from within?
Thank you again very much for your reply.
Yes, there is an action that comes from within because the 3 key ingredients work on pigment production, which is a chemical process, not just a structure to be sloughed. Also, peeling can occur below the visual level that we see with our eyes, meaning exfoliation (aka peeling) is inherent in the use of these 3 ingredients.
Of course, this is a prescription skin care system and must be supervised by your treating doctor who understands you specific skin issues. Remember, my information is just that, general information related to how I use these products on my own patients, whom I see and whose specific skin issues I take into consideration when making treatment decisions. You must consult your own doctor for questions relating to your specific treatment concerns.
Warm Regards, Cynthia Bailey MD
Is the acne kit really works? i am 22 years old and i have sensitive skin and bad acne. I really want clear skin.
Hello Dayana,
Yes the acne kit works well for my patients. It does have all 3 of the main ingredients used in OTC acne products to clean out pores and treat the acne bacteria, meaning the products can be irritating to sensitive skin.
Warm Regards,
Cynthia Bailey MD
