    Dr Bailey,

My questions are about both your BB cream and make up.

Currently I use 4-5 products to accomplish what Suntegrity claims it does. Somehow I have a hard time believing that just one product is as effective as separate ones. With sunscreen especially the amount of Suntegrity I would apply won’t be enough to protect me well. Plus, applying thinnest to thickest works nicely, whereas with Suntegrity it sounds like it’s a mixture of it all, and maybe AOX don’t get absorbed well. I also have wait times between moisturizer/ss and ss/makeup to give them time to “settle”. Would you please briefly justify using Suntegrity instead of separate products?

As much as I want to use powder make up, it looks visible on my face. I’m very fair, and with liquid foundation if it’s a little too pink or too yellow or too thick, it’s very evident. Also, powder make up seems to emphasize skin’s imperfections much more. I feel like it’s only suitable for those rare people with perfect skin. Or maybe darker skinned folks can also get away with using it with good results. What do you think?

    Thank you.

    Hello Vera,
Just yesterday a patient exclaimed to me “oh my, your skin looks amazing, that’s the skin I want!”. I had seen her just a month before. Yes, I take good care of my skin, and for a 54 year old ex-tanner, it’s in good shape. But why was she so blow away today? I had on Suntegrity 5 in 1.

I don’t recommend skipping the Green Tea/Replenix. There is no substitute for it, it’s the best antioxidant product bar none. Same with the Cell Repair Serum (for people who can use vitamin C). Suntegrity goes on top in place of moisturizer, sunscreen and foundation. The benefits in the base will seep into the skin, but you are right about wanting a really therapeutic antioxidant product underneath.

The color intensity really is perfectly matched to the amount of product needed for sun protection. I’ve tested it in harsh sun circumstances with my white, exfoliated type 2 skin and it performs better than any product; it is equal to the very tenacious, and high performance, Raw Elements (which is not cosmetically equivalent). Remember, Suntegrity is NON-NANO zinc with tinting. We can mail you a small sample if you would like. It’s an investment, but one I think is worth it.

Honestly, the Sunscreen and makeup is a lovely combo. Our pressed and backed powders are unique as well, light and don’t get stuck in the wrinkles. I examine skin under magnification all day and no one using it looks powdered or like their makeup migrated. Same with the Suntegrity. We have no way of sending makeup samples though.

Enter the drawing and if you win, you’ll have a lovely gift. Our bags are elegant and sweet.

    Cheers, Cynthia Bailey MD

    Dear Dr. Bailey,

It’s really GREAT what you do! I want you to know that sometimes I feel helpless but your site actually gives me hope. I’m taking it slow but hopefully one day I will have a nice complexion. I would love to try your makeup and Suntegrity so I entered the drawing!

Do ya’ll offer samples for the green tea/replenix product? Also, Do you have to wear a sunscreen when using the green tea product? Sunscreen is difficult for me and I WILL add it to my regimen but first I would like to do the rosacea “cool down” before I add too many products at one time so I can see how my skin reacts. After I see how my skin does with the green tea the next step will be testing out SUNSCREENS!

Could you also offer another product recommendation before I place my order. I am dealing with stubborn blackheads and little pimples on my neck!! I was looking but you have so many options. I’m looking for something I can use on my neck and then maybe sneak it on my face after I complete my rosacea “cool down” stage….So then I could tackle the breakout problem on my face!
Thanks…..hope you have a great day!

    Hello Jozi,
There are no samples for the Green Tea, plus you really need to use it for 6 weeks or so to let your skin undergo the necessary changes that are possible. Inflammation has to slow and sort of “wash out” of the skin and that requires sustained use of the product.

Yes, a zinc oxide sunscreen needs to be applied on top because the Green Tea is not a sunscreen.

Pimples on the neck are often sometimes pityrosporum folliculitis. Read my info on that and see if it fits. I use the Calming Zinc and possible a Buf Puf or Clarisonic to treat it. All pore cleaning products (keratolytics) can be irritating to sensitive skin and so those are not “safe” choices for someone suffering from severe product intolerance.

    I hope that helps.

Thanks!! I can’t wait to receive/start the replenix cream!! And…I’m also gonna try the Elta MD Clear sunscreen since its good for both breakout prone skin and rosacea…You have so many good ones I wasn’t sure which one to choose! haha

    Have a wonderful weekend!!

    Dr Bailey,

Would you please answer these follow up questions?

My face can handle daily use of both Green Tea and Vit C. Nightly use of tretinoin leaves me with am only for AOX. Do I use alternate them under Suntegrity, or can I use both each am? Is there a wait time between AOX and Suntegrity? How much of Suntegrity do you recommend using on face and neck? Does Suntegrity leave matte finish? Does it have any clogging ingredients (I’m prone to “cycle related” breakouts)?

About your zinc soap – I’ve used Noble Zinc and another botanical cleansing bar in the past. Compared to many other gel cleansers, the bars left my face very, very smooth. It just felt so clean. No roughness whatsoever, and all dry flakes were gone with no effort of rubbing or wiping. Why’s that?

  7. Cynthia Bailey MD October 22, 2012 at 7:55 am #

I have my patients use Green Tea/Replenix after washing twice a day, including under tretinoin. CRS goes on top during the day then sunscreen.

Suntegrity 5 in 1 covers and protects well with a modest application of about 1/3 tsp (similar to other zinc sunscreens). I use Citrix or Elta Daily on my neck because Suntegrity is tinted and may get on clothing.

Suntegrity has some natural oils so it is not oil-free. Tretinoin is often sufficient to keep pores from becoming clogged when using oil containing natural skin care products – it works for mine but everyone is different.

Foaming gel cleansers often contain sodium laurel sulfate, which is drying and can actually irritate skin. Naturally made soaps have natural glycerin to help hydrate skin. When they are well made, excess alkali is removed to minimize pH issues that can happen with soap. Calming Zinc has medicine in it too and that may be what is impacting complexion, not the soap. Hard to say.

  8. Gail October 25, 2012 at 11:54 am #

Is there a product like Suntegrity you would recommend for someone that needs an oil free product due to being breakout/acne prone?

  9. Cynthia Bailey MD October 26, 2012 at 5:32 am #

    Hello Gail,
MDSolarSciences makes a nice tinted product. So does EltaMD. Google their tinted SFP products. Hope that helps.

  10. Gail October 26, 2012 at 7:11 am #

    Thank….will check them out!

  11. Gail October 29, 2012 at 8:36 am #

Just a few follow up questions from the above info. I didn’t mention that I am fixing to start Atralin Gel at night so will the EltaMD tinted protect me enough from the sun while on the atralin gel or will I need something stronger?

I want something that is one product but will take the place of sunscreen, moistrurizer, and foundation…like suntegrity does. Could you please tell me what key factors to look for when purchasing this type of product? SPF amt? etc. (I have rosacea and breakout prone skin)

I saw above that you mentioned that someone could get samples of the Suntegrity…could you please let me know how I could do that? It seems like such a great product….it’s worth a try!

  12. Cynthia Bailey MD November 4, 2012 at 6:04 pm #

    Hello again Gail,
A small sample is not enough to test the acne risk of a product. It often takes weeks of using a product daily for that to finally happen.

My blog has info on moisturizing for oil/acne prone skin and for what constitutes adequate sun protection. The moisturizing topic is complex. Please check out that post.

Sunscreen is SPF 30 or higher with 5% zinc oxide for broad spectrum protection.

    Cheers, CBMD
