Get Your Skin Ready for Summer Checklist

Summer Checklist_MainAre you ready to be done with the dry winter weather? Spring is almost here, and it will be summer before you know it! One way to brighten up the winter blues and fight off cabin fever is to make plans for the coming seasons. We’ve put together a summer checklist for you to get your skin ready for warmer weather.

1. Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate!

It seems like a simple thing, but clearing away dead skin is the first, basic and most important step to getting your skin to glow. You can exfoliate several different ways, which you can read more about in the following articles:

Exfoliation = Skin Spring Cleaning: Find It Again Friday

For the best exfoliation treatment of your arm and leg skin (soon to be showing in your summer clothing), Dr. Bailey recommends the Complete Body Skin Care Kit. She and her patients have used this kit for years here in California. They are proof that it turns dry, scaly, rough and old looking skin into dewy, smooth and hydrated skin almost instantly.

2. Use Sunless Tanner

Summer skin care should have your skin looking smooth and sun-kissed, but without the sun.

It’s important to get into the habit of getting your summer glow from a bottle and not from harmful UVA rays. Dr. Bailey’s favorite sunless tanner for the face and body is Self-Tanning Lotion for Sensitive Skin by Avene. The exfoliation step goes right along with this because, clearing away dead skin is very necessary, before you apply sunless tanner. If you skip this important step, your skin will look splotchy and the application will be uneven.

3. Get Your Feet Ready to See the Sun!

Are your feet scaly and calloused from being in shoes all winter? Right now, start taking off the thick, rough skin and clean up your feet with our Rough Skin Remover Kit! If you struggle with athlete’s foot, Dr. Bailey has some great advice for you in her blog post: Helpful Foot Skin Care Tips for Summer.

4. Get into the Habit of Wearing Sunscreen

Citrix Sunscreen SPF 40

It cannot be said enough – sunscreen is essential to protecting your skin from the harmful rays of the sun. No tan is a safe tan!

Sun protection is the single most important way to have beautiful, radiant smooth skin for your entire life.

Here are 3 myths Dr. Bailey breaks down when it comes to wearing sunscreen. And yes, you should wear sunscreen all the time, summer or winter, including when you wear a hat and sunglasses. Sunscreen is really that important.

To peruse our selection of sunscreens where Dr. Bailey explains how to know which ones to choose, visit our sunscreen page.

5. Embrace Fashionable Protective Outerwear (i.e., sunglasses, hats, umbrellas, etc.)

Because UVA and UVB rays can come from everywhere, not just overhead, it’s important to augment your sunscreen with clothing that will protect your skin and eyes. If you are into fashion, this is where the fun part begins! Don’t fall for the fashion trends that say leathery skin and bearing it all is the only way to dress. Search online for fashion-forward clothing that doubles as sun protection. Umbrellas are gaining popularity now, thanks to famous artists becoming aware of sun damage, as are sunglasses and floppy hats.

6. Look for Beach Covers

You don’t have to avoid the beach like the plague. There are ways to enjoy being outside without damaging your skin. Sunscreen and protective clothing are necessary steps, but don’t forget something as simple as shade can help immensely too. If you’re planning on being at the beach, find a spot that has shade or bring along a big umbrella or beach tent. Need some ideas? Check out our Pinterest board: Shady Living Sun Protection.

Get started planning now so when spring and summer arrive, you and your skin will be ready!

It’s time to think of the great plans you’ll have for the warmer weather! What will you be doing this summer? Will your skin be ready?

Hi . I just starting using the new illuminating blue serum to hydrate . I use it alone and it makes my skin more dehydrated when in doors with ac . Is it because it is all humectants and not trapped ?

I recommend using it after washing and toweling dry and then applying a moisturizer on top. My favorite is to apply the Green Tea Cream then the Daily Face Cream and/or a sunscreen matched for skin type. The layering of products allows ultimate customized complete skin care for your unique complexion and the unique hydration needs of regions of your face. As you know the infamous T-zone is different than the other areas etc. Hope that helps

ok great. I read humectants alone can increase tewl, so that is probably why.
